In your concept of brilliance, a highly intelligent person will typically focus their attention attempting to uncover and define some unknown, fundamental truth or set of truths, knowing if/when he does this, there will be even deeper questions he simply cannot answer.  This is what I call obvious brilliance, maybe even a know-it-all, or perhaps even someone who knows that he does not know everything.  Either way, they are quite similar.

What happens when you mix brilliance with insanity? You get a woman who manipulates her husband to commit heinous murders.  Charlene Gallego, a violin prodigy and nymphomaniac with an IQ of 160, orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of at least 11 people, some as young as 13 and most of them female.  She intentionally married a real piece of work for a husband - but she knew what she was doing. She focused her husband on kidnapping and sexually assaulting girls, of course she was highly involved as well; then they eventually murdered them.  Charlene and her husband were eventually caught. But, Charlene had planned for that too. She claimed she was a victim too, agreed to testify against her husband and, as a result, only received a 17-year prison sentence. She has been "free" since 1997.

If you ever conversed with Charlene, do you think she would come off as a know-it-all? I don't think so. Rather, I think her highly intelligent and very twisted mind would all the while be sizing you up to see if she can involve you in the commission of a heinous crime and get you blamed for it.

I know, sick.....and brilliant.

Well, of course. Intelligence/brilliance manifests itself in different ways. I have worked with folks who create enormously complex computer scripts with ease but then could not tell you how to cook a steak or whatever.
